Corona has prevented us from travelling but we are going to be adventurous and have planned a road trip together with my sister, Liz and her husband Paul while Gerry is our dedicated driver on this 3.000 plus kilometers from Rotterdam, Netherlands to Saronida Greece.
We have spent our previous night at the Hotel New York and today, after my birthday breakfast (yes I’ve reached the epic age of 70!) we will be on our way to Nancy.
Gerry and I discovered this city 2 years ago when we had gone on a similar trip down to Greece. Alas since then so much has happened in my life. That same summer my daughter, Nicole, passed away and the pleasure of travelling was taken away. Although last year we did travel to Gambia, I just couldn’t bring myself to write in my blog. Then Corona broke out while we were in Andalusia and we had to break our trip and get back home – we did get away last September when we drove to Brittany however most of the last 18 months has been spent at home, reading, gardening, going for walks, watching Netflix and when it seemed that we were well on the way recovering from Corona we planned this road trip as we are still hesitant to do long distance flights.
Last night we enjoyed a pre-birthday dinner together with Liz and Paul and Monique (Gerry’s oldest daughter) and her partner Rogier. All other family members are on holiday but we still had a lovely time together tasting

After a good night’s sleep with a (waning) full moon streaming into our bedroom, we all enjoyed a good breakfast and started the day with loads of felicitations from friends and family – today it’s my birthday and i’ve reached the epic age of ………70!
By 10.15 we had packed the car and were on our way – our next overnight stop is Nancy in France. Now the excitement was rising, mainly because I had organised all the health forms we needed on the way: Declaration of Health for France, Swiss and Italian Personal Locator Forms, etc.. and we didn’t exactly know whether we would be stopped at borders or requested to present these forms at hotels.
